Review of Shampoo Planet

From Mail on Sunday (March 7, 1993)

Douglas Coupland shot to fame with his first novel, Generation X, with its scenes of grungey kids groaning at their parents, writes Nicholas Trelawny.

This time he's focusing on Generation Y - the MTV-addled 'Global Teens'. The setting is North West America; the plot concerns a would-be hotel manager, his sad Sixties mum, and a couple-with-attitude who threaten to change everything.

But perhaps the best parts of this slickly written novel are its snappy analyses of modern consumer culture, in all its paradoxical surreality.
